At KOMET, every technical decision is also an aesthetic, ethical, and sensory one.
Our choice to work with low-fire ceramics at 1005°C wasnât made lightly. Itâs the result of extensive experimentation â and a clear commitment: to preserve the tactile richness of the material while reducing our energy impact.
đĄ A gentler heat, a more expressive glaze
Low-fire (or "faïence") firing allows us to explore a unique range of glazes: softer textures, muted tones, and delicate variations. Unlike porcelain or stoneware, which require firing above 1250°C, faïence retains a deeply organic, almost sensitive character.
Each KĂMET piece becomes a living object, where natural light reveals subtle changes throughout the day.
âïž A technical and environmental choice
Lower firing temperatures also mean lower energy consumption. Our studio already runs on solar power â this is part of a coherent and sustainable approach to production.
This technique also creates less internal stress in the clay and offers greater stability for complex shapes, giving us more creative freedom, especially for bespoke designs.
đœ Designed for everyday use
Our ceramics are built to withstand professional use: daily handling, dishwashing, plating. Even with low-fire methods, our faĂŻence remains durable, lightweight, and reliable, provided that itâs used with basic care (no thermal shock, no direct oven-to-freezer transitions, etc.).
Working with chefs, hoteliers, and designers has allowed us to fine-tune our materials, glazes, and firing methods to create pieces that are both beautiful and practical.
At KOMET, firing isnât just a technical step. Itâs a founding gesture â a way to tell the story of fire, earth, and emotion.
And you â what kind of connection do you want with the objects that accompany your meals?
